Dîner en Blanc Arrives in Philly

This très chic Paris-import turned global phenomenon will arrive in Philadelphia for the first time this summer on Thursday, August 23, 2012. Where, you ask? Well, that has yet to be disclosed. This mysterious picnic event is one of the most sought-after secrets — part pop-up feast and part je ne sais quoi. Culinary and culture enthusiasts dressed in white will converge upon a secret locale for an unforgettable evening of elegance, beauty and magic.

“Philadelphia is a city full of life with a passion and appreciation for food, tradition and culture which makes it a perfect backdrop for Dîner en Blanc,”said Natanya DiBona, Philadelphia Co-Chair. “The goal is to spend an extraordinary night — an unconventional picnic — and gather Philadelphians in a beautiful public space to reconnect friends and create new relationships.”

Public Art to Stimulate the AC Economy

On July Fourth, I had the good fortune of checking out the Duality 3D Lightshow in Atlantic City as part of their “Do AC” campaign. While staying at the gorgeously renovated Golden Nugget, I was granted a VIP Pass to check out the inner workings of the light show and investigate the impetus of the project. The lightshow is part of a public art initiative to stimulate the economy in AC without garishly straying from the history of the city. How does that work?

Duality takes place at Boardwalk Hall — first built in 1929– when novel approaches to theatrical lighting were incorporated into the structure. As the title may imply, the lightshow illuminates two sides of Atlantic City history in an abstract, entertaining fashion. Running 8.5 minutes long, the show will start every half hour from 9:30p pm to 2 am. The projection is state of the art and includes surround-sound accompaniment, all created by Moment Factory — a new media and entertainment studio “specialized in the conception and production of multimedia environments combining video, lighting, architecture, sound and special effects to create remarkable experiences.”
